Denise Affonço worked at the French Embassy in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, when the Khmer Rouge took power in 1975. Affonço explains how his family was deported to the countryside and how the regime established an agricultural state where they had to work on the ground. It is calculated that in the four years of dictatorship a quarter of the inhabitants of the country died, nearly two million people.
