“Iran under the skin” includes a proposal they jointly presented Casa Asia and CCCB in 2004. The project was born with the firm desire to provide a multifaceted approach to a country like Iran whose complex reality was quite unknown to us. International political events in the 90s caused Iran to become a focus of attention, if not surveillance. The exhibition project behind this book was framed in a time when the media was talking about Iran and its anchorage in the Islamic religious tradition and at the same time about its clear vocation not to disconnect from the West. This project tried to avoid the clichés associated with that country, and instead propose that the debate between opposites was not a recent phenomenon but an axis that has marked Iranian culture for several generations and that, in a certain way, constitutes an element substantial of it.
