Within the framework of the collaboration agreement between the Polytechnic University of Madrid and Casa Asia, this study on “Technological Innovation Ecosystems in China” is presented. The objective of the publication is to understand the reality of innovation in China and to be able to carry out a comparative study with the Spanish case, providing recommendations to promote cooperation in R&D&I.
The study offers, first of all, an overview of the main actors, policies, instruments, centers, and trends in innovation in China. This approach allows us to understand the R&D&I governance system, analyzing the role of the main political, social and economic agents. The first chapter analyzes how regional and national policies take the five-year plans as a reference framework. The second chapter offers a general perspective on the entrepreneurship ecosystem in China. The third chapter explains the functioning of the Chinese educational system and how it is trying to achieve a balance between the objectives of educational equity and creativity and innovation.
Secondly, the study offers substantive contributions on specific areas in which a deeper impact is being produced within the innovation system, such as the improvement of food security based on blockchain (fourth chapter); Artificial Intelligence (fifth chapter); or the aeronautical industry (sixth chapter).
Finally, the study also introduces us to the rapid and promising digital and social change that is taking place in China, and that has turned the country into an immense and diversified market in constant growth. As explained in the last chapter, it is a very dynamic and increasingly regulated sector.
In this way, this work incorporates the contributions of people who are working in the field of innovation in China with the purpose of analyzing specific areas of collaboration, which can serve as a reference for future cooperation projects between Chinese and Spanish counterparts. . For this, we have had the support of the financing granted by the Confucius Institute Foundation of Barcelona, to whom we thank for their contribution.
