The Chinese President visits Spain to strengthen strategic relations

The Chinese President, Xi Jinping, will begin this Tuesday a state visit to Spain with the purpose to underpin a preferred partner relationship between both countries for more than a decade and to promote business opportunities for Spanish companies in projects such as the Silk Road, according to a note of EFE Agency.

Since 2005, when Hu Jintao signed an agreement of strategic association with the President of the Government of the time, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, a Chinese Head of State hadn't been to Spain, whose trip coincided with the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries.

The Government gives Xi's visit special relevance, whose purpose is to update and renew the strategic relation sealed 13 years ago, to consolidate this confidence framework with specific results and to strengthen economic collaboration.
In his only visit to Europe, the Chinese President arrives today Tuesday and on Thursday morning he will go to Argentina to take part in the G20 Meeting.

Xi's tight agenda, accompanied by his wife, Peng Liyuan, includes two dinners with the King and Queen, on Tuesday at Zarzuela Palace and the following day at Palacio Real.

Felipe VI will give the official welcome with honours on Wednesday morning at the Palacio Real, before visiting the Senate, where there will be a formal session of the General Parliament in the ancient assembly hall where he will give his first words.
After this, a meeting between Xi and the President of the Government will take place, Pedro Sánchez, at the Palacio de la Moncloa, where they will sign several agreements regarding trade, taxation, culture, science and technology, as well as the reactivating of the Business Advisory Board, inoperative since its creation in 2015.

In a letter he sent Felipe VI last 9th of March to celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic links, the Communist leader expressed his desire to "strengthen traditional friendship and encourage integral strategic association to go higher".
With this purpose, the Chinese President will reaffirm his offer so that Spanish companies get involved in the multi-million project of infrastructures and communications of the new silk roads.

Xi will expose his plans at the business forum with which he will open his agenda on Tuesday, with the attendance of managers of around 20 Spanish companies and other Chinese ones, which in the latest years have also increased their interest in establishing in Spain.
The former Head of the Government Mariano Rajoy attended the head of state forum held in Beijing in May 2017 to promote the new connection between Asia and Europe and Xi will send his invitation for Sánchez to attend the second forum in April next year.
Spain would like formulas to continue reducing trade deficit with China, after in 2016 and 2017 exportations have grown 14.8 and 28%, respectively.
