Asian Countries lead the Ranking of the 2012 PISA REPORT

Shanghai, Singapur, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Macao and Japan lead, in this order, the ranking of the 2012 PISA REPORT (Programme for International Student Assessment). For the first time since the report has been made, these Asian cities and countries lead the first positions of this international assessment adding the average marks of OCDE countries in the three competence tests: maths, reading and science.

PISA study evaluates the abilities and knowledge of 15 year old young people from all over the world. In 2012, the report has been made in 65 countries of all 5 continents, including the 34 that belong to OCDE (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development), and around 300.000 students have taken the exams. It doesn't only assess competences in maths, reading and science (including biology, geology, physics and technology), but also what students have learned outside school, as well as their cognitive abilities.

PISA assessments are organises in series of 3 yeras, so in every series one of the areas of knowledge are tested with more detail and precision. At this edition maths assessment has been highlighted and is devoted two thirds of the time of the test.

Spain, in the 33rd position in this average OCDE countries, which places it under the average mark has taken part since its first edition in 2000 in all three-year periods. In 2012, as well as the state as a whole, autonomic communities that have broadened their regional results to be able to give results that could be comparable on an international scale are the following: Andalusia, Aragón, Asturias, Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Catalonia, Extremadura, Galicia, La Rioja, C.de Madrid, Murcia, C.Foral de Navarra and the Basque Country.
