On the 7th and 9th of February Casa Asia organised the Asia Geek lecture: "Digital China", delivered by the Chinese blogger Isaac Mao. Mao is a philosopher of sharism, a social businessman, blogger, software architect and researcher in social teaching and technology. Currently, he is Director of the Social Brain Foundation (successor of the programme CNBlog co-founded by Mao), manager of the Tor Project, adviser of the Global Voices Online and executive adviser of many Internet, Web 2.0 and new media companies. He is also director of the Shanghai Youth Development Foundation.

Isaac Mao, computing engineer and one of the main Chinese bloggers, displayed at his lecture which are the possibilities sharism offers, a concept that he has coined himself. According to Mao, a new social context has been created which has gone beyond such hierarchical social structures, because “sharism is a new philosopher like Capitalism or Communism: A new kind of society”.

At the lecture, this influencing Chinese blogger has portrayed the process of integration of new technologies in China and how citizens are making a double leap from a regime that bans Western websites such as Facebook or Twitter towards a collaborating democracy, where citizens are learning to actively take part because "the more you share, the more you get”.

Mao studied his BA and MA in Computing Engineering at the University Jiaotong of Shanghai. As one of the first bloggers of the Chinese community, he was the promoter of the Chinese Blogger Conference (Shanghai 2005, Hangzhou 2006, Beijing 2007 and Guangzhou 2008).

Isaac is also a global bridge in the blogosphere. Usual guest at the World Economic Forum, Web 2.0 Summit, Wikimania, Chinese Internet Research Conference, Ci'Num, PICNIC and other events of global culture about Internet, Mao has been nominated for the Index Journalist Award on Censorship and is included in the list of the most influencing people of the “2006-2016 Map of the Decade” of the Institute for the Future.
