The Saló de Cent of the Barcelona City Council will be the setting, on July 8, for the Awards ceremony Casa Asia of this year. The winners in its four categories are: the researcher and engineer Tomás Mazón, the Asian LGBTIQ+ activists Saurabh Kirpal and Shinta Ratri, the Mondragón business group and the sinologist Dolors Folch.
This was decided by the jury, meeting on December 20 after evaluating the 47 candidates presented, which awarded these four prizes based on the following merits:
- A Tomás Mazón Serrano, in the Culture and Society category, for its research and dissemination work on the expedition of Ferdinand Magellan and Juan Sebastián Elcano, making the First Tour of the World known to a non-specialized public through the website rutaelcano.com, with a new vision based on the original sources.
- A Saurabh Kirpal and Shinta Ratri, in the Diversity and Sustainable Development category, for her contribution to gender equality in Asia and in particular for her fight, from legal practice and social activism, in favor of the dignity and rights of LGTBIQ+ people in India and Indonesia.
- A Mondragón Cooperative Corporation, in the Economy and Business category, for its pioneering commitment to Asia and for its corporate philosophy based on the values of social responsibility and integration.
- A Dolors Folch Fornesa, in the Education and Science category, for his academic career, for contributing to the introduction of Asian studies in Spain, and for his dedication of more than three decades to the knowledge of Chinese culture.
This award was established for the first time in 2004 with the objective of recognizing and disseminating the work of individuals and entities, both public and private, that have stood out for their work in the economic, social, educational, cultural or development cooperation fields. promoting dignity and human rights in the Asia-Pacific region, and/or contribute or have contributed to promoting knowledge, dialogue and relations between Spain and the Asia-Pacific region.
The Awards Ceremony Casa Asia 2022 will have the participation of representatives of the Consortium Casa Asia: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Generalitat de Catalunya, Madrid City Council and Barcelona City Council, and the assistance of the ambassadors of the Asia and Pacific region in Spain, among other authorities.
The activists awarded the Prize Casa Asia 2022 in the Diversity and Sustainable Development category, Saurabh Kirpal (India) and Shinta Ratri (Indonesia) will give the talk “LGTBIQ+ rights and activism in Asia” on Thursday, July 7, 18.30:XNUMX p.m. at the University of Barcelona.
