Conference "Asia in your suitcase: Indonesia, archipelago of diversity"

Within the framework of the series “Asia in your suitcase” organised by Casa Asia in collaboration with Evaneos, the speaker Fernando de Castro will approach us to the largest archipelago of the world with 17.000 islands: Indonesia.

Inhabited for more thousands of years, it has been a crossing point and development of many cultures and it now offers one of the countries with greatest cultural, linguistic, ethnical and religious diversity of the world. Countries of contrasts, where you can find from suffocating megapolis to tropical virgin jungle, where every year there are many new animal and vegetable species at the same time enormous areas of jungle disappear.

A country where such different ethnic groups are identified with a common national project and generally coexist peacefully. After centuries of Buddhist and Hindu traditions, nowadays it is the country with the highest rate of Muslims of the world, with an important number of Christians, heritage of the Portuguese and Dutch colonial period, this last one lasted 300 years. Country of contrasts with a young democracy, third in the world, with more and more relevance in the tourist, economic, religious and geopolitical fields.
